From birth to age 5, children demonstrate remarkable development in the areas of language, thinking, and fine and gross motor skills. How can a parent distinguish normal developmental behavior in children from worrisome clues that may indicate a potential problem? To explore this subject, Kohl’s department stores and North Carolina Children’s Hospital will present "Child's Play: Early Childhood Development and Behavior from Birth to Age 5" on May 22. New in 2008, the N.C. Children's Promise has partnered with American Way Thrift Stores to accept donations of your gently used clothing and household items. Keep an eye on your mailbox. You will receive a postcard notice alerting you when our trucks will be in your neighborhood. Or you can call our Donation Services Line to schedule a pick-up at your convenience: (877) 543-7022 or (919) 832-KIDS.
The N.C. Children’s Promise does
not run its own thrift stores, nor does it
match donated goods with patients or
their families. Rather, we have contracted with
American Way Thrift Stores to purchase your
donated items and sell them in their thrift stores throughout the state, with proceeds benefiting North Carolina Children’s Hospital.
UPDATE: Due to overwhelming response in support of this new program, the thrift store partner we work with to coordinate donation collection has experienced an unexpected 60 percent increase in donation volume. That is a direct reflection of your (and your neighbor's!) generosity and support. THANK YOU!
While we are thrilled with this early success, it means that—with our trucks full—we've occassionally been forced to leave some donations behind to collect the following day. We regret any inconvenience this may cause. We are committed to addressing these challenges in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we thank you for your patience and continued support.
