N.C. CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL SPONSORED EVENTS

The N.C. Children’s Promise Radiothon/Telethon
The N.C. Children's Promise Radiothon/Telethon is UNC Health Care's largest single fundraising event each year. Held in conjunction with Curtis Media Group and Time Warner Cable, this signature fall event raises funds to benefit children’s programs and further support the continuation of excellence within the medical and surgical programs housed at North Carolina Children’s Hospital.

The Thursday before Thanksgiving each year, seventeen Curtis Media Group radio stations and Time Warner Cable’s News 14 Carolina broadcast live from the Children's Hospital from 5 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., seeking pledges from listeners and viewers throughout the Triangle and beyond. 2009's 8th annual N.C. Children's Promise Radiothon/Telethon once again surpassed the $1 million mark, giving us our second highest tally to date—just behind 2008 when we hit $1M for the first time and set a new and very exciting fundraising benchmark. The Annual N.C. Children's Promise Gala
The inaugural and second annual Promises of Laughter Galas featured fine dining and comedy entertainment in a completely transformed Children's Hospital lobby, but we broke the mold in 2009 and rebranded the Gala to bring you a Derby Day extravaganza—the Run for the Promise Gala! The event was so well-received that we decided to do it again in 2010.

More than 350 people joined us on Sat., May 1, 2010, celebrating the Kentucky Derby with us North Carolina-style and helping us raise more than $65K. Want to learn more? Visit the Gala's official website at www.RunForThePromise.org.

Eric Montross Father’s Day Basketball Camp
2009 marked the 15th anniversary of this special camp that provides dads and their kids a weekend experience on the court raising money for North Carolina Children’s Hospital. Eric Montross began the camp in 1994 in memory of Jason Clark, one of the remarkable young patients treated at the hospital, who unfortunately lost his battle with cancer after a 9-month fight.

Since the camp’s inception, Eric and Laura Montross have raised more than $850,000 to fund programs such as the Jason Clark Teen Activity Center, painted murals throughout the hospital, and Children's Short Stay Unit.

For more information about the Eric Montross Father's Day Basketball Camp, please contact Keela Lyon at 919.843.2915 or visit the Camp's homepage. Also, photos from 2010's Camp are available on the Children's Hospital's Facebook page.

The 22nd annual Carolina Kids Classic was held on Thurs., June 24, 2010, at UNC’s Finley Golf Course, featuring host emeritus. Dean Smith, and honorary hosts Roy Williams and Butch Davis.
